We've been hearing about an amazing 4-D movie experience coming to Regal Cinemas L.A. all week. Before we describe the range of effects from fog and rain to scents and vibrations, here's what we love most: it's an experience! At SquadUP, we're constantly preaching that the word "event" is too limiting. If done right, your guests should be excited before, during, and after the event itself. Hosts want to immerse their audience in every way possible, from stimulating all senses, to a comprehensive social media strategy and everything in between. Every event is different. It takes creativity and intense preparation to engage guests and make the most out of your time with them.
The 4-D technology is nothing new. The CJ group has established themselves as the leader in the field with fully operational theaters in South Korea, Thailand, and Mexico. Theaters they claim sell out regularly. These theaters include moving and vibrating seats and nozzles that spray water, mist, bubbles, air, and smells. They have over 1,000 scents from women's perfume to burning rubber. Other features include fans, and strobe lights to immitate We're trying to figure out why people in Mexico were able to see Avatar in 4-D and years later the immersive experience is just reaching the United States. If anybody out there has an answer we'd love to hear from you. Places like Disney World have jumped on board and certain features like the moving seats have been tested in U.S. theaters but launching at a premiere Hollywood theater is a big step in the right direction.
The 4-D features help to further differentiate going to the movies from watching at home on your couch. With Netflix and the ability to see almost any movie from the comfort of your home why would people make the trek to the theater? For a bigger screen? Sure, you get to see movies when they first come out, but any remotely tech savvy individual can stream them online, with varying levels of picture quality. This is a game changer because you're no longer watching the movie- like you would from your couch- instead you're experiencing them.
